Grip products
Captains of Crush grippers. IronMind's first catalogue with Captains of Crush grippers appeared in 1991. The line now has eleven levels with nominal ratings from 60 lb (Guide) to 365 lb (No. 4). It grew in stages: the Trainer in 1992, the No. 4 in 1994, the No. 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 in 2006, and the Point Five in 2012. See Captains of Crush Grippers.
Rolling Thunder. A revolving one-hand deadlift handle, introduced in 1993. The handle is 2-3/8 inches (60 mm) thick. IronMind publishes the rules for the lift and keeps its world records. See IronMind Rolling Thunder.
Apollon's Axle. A non-revolving polished steel thick bar, introduced in 1994: 2 inches thick between the collars, 7 feet long, about 33 lb (15 kg), with 17-inch loading sleeves for Olympic plates. See Axle and Thick Bars.
Certification
IronMind certified its first Captain of Crush, Richard Sorin, on the No. 3 gripper in 1991. It now certifies closes on the No. 3, 3.5 and 4, and on the No. 2 and 2.5 for women, and publishes every certified name by year. Six people are certified on the No. 4. Certification follows IronMind's written Rules for Closing and Certification, including the credit card rule for the starting position, and is now judged by a panel of referees from video. IronMind also keeps records for the Rolling Thunder one-hand deadlift under its own published rules. See Grip Certifications.
Because IronMind both makes these implements and keeps their record lists, its rules decide what counts on a Captains of Crush gripper or a Rolling Thunder.
